Hi, I'm Hallie Murphy.  Welcome to my virtual office.  Unlike my real office, in here you may eat, smoke, bring your pets, even wear your jammies.  AND, you have the waiting room all to yourself!  So, have a look around, make yourself at home, and well get acquainted.

I am a LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR (LPC) in Texas with 10 years experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy.  I treat adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families with a wide variety of issues:

I am a LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR (LPC) in Texas with 10 years experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy.  I treat adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families with a wide variety of issues:

        Depression from mild to severe

        Bipolar disorder (manic-depression)

        Anxiety

        Stress Management

        Obsessive-compulsive disorder

        Self esteem

        Panic attacks

        Social anxiety

        Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

        Parent/child issues

        Marital problems

        Divorce counseling

        Midlife and other transitions

        Women's issues

        Gay and Lesbian issues

        Spiritual issues

        Dealing with difficult people

        Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADD/ADHD)

        Special issues of the gifted/talented

        Sexual problems

I try to hone in on the real problem, and often discover issues you may not be aware of consciously.  I find the Cognitive/Behavioral approaches work well with most conditions.  The theory is that we often are unconscious of ways of coping we learned early in life to deal with our environment.  What is good about this theory is that what we learn can be unlearned and replaced with more productive ways to get our needs met.  Jungian therapy is also very effective, and uses mythology and dream interpretation to describe and discover our inner selves and solutions.

PERSONAL

I entered college at age 33, and at 45, returned to finish my education.  I was a proud graduate at age 53, with my three children cheering me on.  I'm a grandmother now, and bring to my practice all my life's experiences, including a teen marriage, and a divorce after 40 years.

Having been raised by a chronically depressed mother and married to a chronically unhappy spouse, I've come to regard depression and personality disorders my specialties.  I am particularly adept at spotting family dysfunction and can help my clients understand and cope with difficult people.

Therapy does not have to be long term. Some clients feel better after just one visit!  Others may take a little longer, but in any case, I try to make you as comfortable with your therapist as I would want to be with mine.  I think you will find my style to be as conversational as talking with a trusted friend.  I look forward to working with you!
